Location Astrology

Relocation astrology — your chart, re-cast for a new city

Same birth moment, different place on Earth. The planets do not move — the ascendant does, and with it every house in your chart. A relocated chart shows how the planets you already have express somewhere else, which is a very different question from whether the sky itself has changed.

What a move changes — and what it never can

This is the single most misunderstood idea in location astrology, and getting it straight saves a lot of disappointment. Relocation is a change of viewpoint, not a change of sky.

Changes

The ascendant

A new horizon at the same instant. Your rising sign, its degree and its nakshatra can all differ — and everything downstream follows from that.

Changes

The house framework

Planets fall into different bhavas. A Jupiter that sat quietly in the 12th at home may stand in the 10th somewhere else, and be seen for the first time.

Changes

Bhava strengths and angularity

Which planets are angular, which houses are reinforced, and how the chart's weight redistributes across career, home, partnership and health.

Unchanged

Every planet's position

Signs, degrees, nakshatras, retrogression, combustion, dignity. The planets are where they were the second you were born and stay there for life.

Unchanged

Your yogas

Raja yogas, dhana yogas, doshas — all formed from planetary relationships, so relocation cannot create or destroy one. It can only change which house they act through.

Unchanged

Your dasha sequence

Vimshottari runs from the Moon's nakshatra at birth. The same periods arrive at the same ages wherever you live; only the setting they play out in differs.

Put plainly: a new city cannot give you a promise your birth chart never made. What it can do is take a promise that was buried and put it where the world can see it — or take one that was obvious and quieten it.

How to judge a city before you commit

  1. Shortlist with the map, not the chart. Open astrocartography first and see which planetary lines pass near the places you are already considering. Judging one city at a time means you never learn what you were missing.
  2. Re-cast the chart in full. A line is one data point. The relocated chart tells you the new lagna, where your yoga-forming planets land, and which houses gain strength.
  3. Check the houses that matter to your reason for moving. Moving for work is a 10th and 6th question; moving for family is 4th; moving for a partner is 7th. A city can be excellent for one and indifferent to another.
  4. Look at what gets weaker, not just what gets stronger. Every relocation is a trade. The honest question is whether you can afford what the new chart quietens.
  5. Then check timing. Run the dasha view for the location. A favourable city entered in an unfavourable period often reads as "it never quite worked out there".
  6. Compare, do not decide in isolation. 96Astro scores 246 cities against your chart — overall and per goal — so your shortlist is measured against the world rather than your imagination.

Three location techniques, three different questions

All three are computed from a single cast on 96Astro.
TechniqueAnswersBest used for
AstrocartographyWhere on Earth is each planet angular?Scanning the whole world to build a shortlist you would not have thought of.
Relocated chartWhat does my chart look like from there?Judging a specific city in depth, with houses, strengths and yogas.
Local SpaceWhich direction should I move from where I am now?Short moves, choosing a neighbourhood, or orienting a home.

None of the three replaces your natal chart. They are lenses onto it. Read the birth chart first, then ask where it works best.

Common questions

What is relocation astrology?

Relocation astrology re-casts your birth chart using the same moment of birth but a different place on Earth. The planets keep their longitudes; the ascendant and the whole house framework change, because those depend on where you stand.

Does moving change my destiny?

No. Relocation changes the frame, not the content. Every yoga, every planetary strength and every dasha stays exactly as it was. A move can put a strong planet on an angle where it becomes far more visible — it cannot create a promise your natal chart never made.

How is this different from astrocartography?

Astrocartography is the map: every planet's angular lines drawn across the whole world. Relocation astrology is the chart: one place, re-cast in full. Use the map to shortlist and the chart to decide.

Do I have to live there for it to apply?

The relocated chart is read for a place you live in or spend substantial time in. A short holiday is usually read with transits instead. The longer the stay, the more the relocated house framework describes daily life.

Which ayanamsa does 96Astro use?

Lahiri by default, with others selectable. Positions come from the Swiss Ephemeris, so the relocated ascendant is accurate to arc-seconds — which matters, since the ascendant moves about one degree every four minutes.

When is the right time to move?

A city that suits your chart still needs the right period. 96Astro reads Vimshottari, Char and Yogini dashas against a location, so you see not only where is favourable but when.

Re-cast your chart for anywhere on Earth

One cast, and every city becomes a chart you can actually read.
