Parashari astrology describes a life. KP was built to answer a question. It keeps the Vedic zodiac but changes what you look at: Placidus cusps instead of whole signs, cuspal sub-lords instead of house lords, and a subdivision of the nakshatra so fine that it turns a chart into a yes, a no, and a date.
The idea the whole system rests on
K. S. Krishnamurti's insight was that a sign is too coarse to decide anything. Thirty degrees is a wide field, and two people with a planet in the same sign can have opposite outcomes. So KP keeps dividing.
Sign — the field
Thirty degrees. Tells you the department of life and the general nature, and almost nothing about whether an event occurs.
Star lord — the result
The nakshatra lord. In KP a planet gives the results of the houses its star lord signifies, not primarily its own.
Sub-lord — the verdict
Each nakshatra divided into nine unequal parts in Vimshottari proportion. The sub-lord decides whether the matter fructifies at all. This is the deciding vote.
Hence the KP maxim: the sign shows, the star gives, the sub decides. A cuspal sub-lord that signifies the houses supporting a matter promises it; one that signifies the houses denying it refuses, however good the rest of the chart looks.

Working a KP judgement
- Name the houses. Every question has supporting and denying houses. Marriage is 2, 7 and 11 supported, 1, 6 and 10 denying. Get this wrong and nothing downstream can be right.
- Find the cuspal sub-lord of the primary house. The 7th cusp for marriage, the 10th for career, the 6th for a loan or illness.
- Read what that sub-lord signifies through the four-step order: planets in its star, the star lord itself, planets in its sign, the sign lord.
- Decide. If the signification favours the supporting houses, the matter is promised. If it favours the denying houses, it is refused — and no yoga elsewhere overrules it.
- Time it with the dasha. Look for a mahadasha, antardasha and pratyantardasha whose lords all signify the supporting houses.
- Confirm with ruling planets. At the moment of judgement, the day lord, Moon sign lord, Moon star lord, lagna sign lord and lagna star lord should agree.
